A 220 volt socket like on your water heater or dryer would be better, ad these typically have 40 or 50 amp circuits, so they can deliver 8,000 to 10,000 watts - is this what they mean? That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean. excluding coal power in china.

The vision is fuelled by the fear of climate change and the need to find green alternatives to dirty coal, unpopular nuclear power and unreliable gas imports from Russia. Are we going to burn more oil, natural gas, or (gasp) coal to produce it? At current transportation battery prices, that is well beyond the cost of spinning reserve.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. Not really sure where all the money is going, but it seems like the Volt is already over-priced and under performing. Denmark did that with Wind Power and now most of their energy comes from wind rather than oil, natural gas, or coal.
