The number of EU countries with CO2-related car taxation rose to 15 in 2008. Romania was the first and so far only Eastern European Member State to introduce CO 2 -related taxation last year as part of a more comprehensive overhaul of vehicle taxation in the country.

This collaboration is in line with the implementation of the DAFI Directive (Directive 2014/94 - Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructures), with a particular focus on certain countries and regions, starting from Wallonia, Belgium. FCA is pursuing the development of alternative fuel motors as a key pillar in its strategy.

Ford Motor Company is doubling the production capacity of its Cologne, Germany, engine plant to produce more than 1,000 units per day of the 1.0-L Ford of Europe has previously announced plans to triple annual production of vehicles equipped with fuel-efficient EcoBoost petrol engines to approximately 480,000 by 2015, from 141,000 in 2011.

In 2009, motor vehicle taxes in the EU 15 amounted to €377 billion (US$505 billion) or 3.4% The Czech Republic and Romania take the number of Member States up to fifteen. ACEA says that the European car industry supports the further introduction of the fiscal incentives for fuel efficiency. New to the list is Belgium.
