Developing technology to address the causes of climate change, mitigate its impact, and adapt to the crisis is one of IEEE’s top priorities. To assist with that effort, the IEEE Young Professionals group this year launched its Climate and Sustainability Task Force.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has established a 2050 net-zero carbon dioxide emission goal for international aviation. The agreement is exciting, in part because ICAO has stopped pretending to be a global climate cop. Countries will develop national measures to cut emissions consistent with ICAO’s goal.

This year, I chartered four ad hoc committees: climate change, innovative funding models, president-elect campaign pilot program, and multimedia-based digital reality technologies.
