Chevrolet is readying deliveries of the Silverado EV RST, and the truck’s already impressive specs just got a boost. Chevy’s new range estimates give the Silverado EV an edge over all its competitors, including the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck. Though stout on specs, the new truck is far from cheap.

Our corporate colleagues at AutoGuide have scanned the Chevrolet Silverado EV first drives and noticed something -- the truck is almost certainly not going to have the previously promised price of $39,900 before destination fees. Cheap EV trucks will likely be on the market someday. Today, it appears, is not that day.

At $7,299, the bundle doesn’t come cheap. The first of GM’s EVs to be compatible with the GM Energy home product suite is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First-Edition RST , which is expected to be available to customers this summer. Less portable but no less external are the Kicker systems offered by General Motors which can be baked in to the multifunction tailgates of Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks. At roughly $300 it’s not the cheapest option – but at least there’s nothing even remotely cheap-feeling about this cool-looking beast of a speaker.

The B2 (a cousin to the B1 wagon) hasn’t been completely killed off and in 2023 the company said “engineers are once again working on developing the SUV and pickup” The B2 wasn’t looking like being cheap despite the simplicity of its aluminium body. We’re watching on with interest. Tough, too … apparently.
