The biggest issues for EVs were reportedly failing electric drive motors, unreliable charging, and trouble with battery packs. If a defect robs a vehicle of motive power and/or results in a giant repair bill, it’s deemed as more important than the windows failing to work or the paint being cheap.

GM’s signature EV now is the Chevrolet Bolt EV , another new name, which arrived as a 2017 model and promptly won Motor Trend ’s Car of the Year award.

Chryslers first electric car, set to be introduced late next year around the same time as General Motors Chevrolet Volt, will be a sports car with a zero-to-60 time of under five seconds and a top speed of 120 miles per hour. Power will come from a 200 kilowatt, or 268 horsepower, electric motor.
