It looks like the first units for sale will be the $79,800 4WT trim -- these trucks are meant for fleet sales. Cheap EV trucks will likely be on the market someday. The $74,000 3WT trim is soon to follow, and AG speculates that the lower trims won't come in at less than $60K. Today, it appears, is not that day.

Back in 2021, Hertz announced an important effort to electrify its fleet of rental cars, led by a massive purchase of 100,000 Tesla Model 3 vehicles. The rental company’s Tesla fleet has been growing over the last few years, and it reported that Tesla vehicles are increasing Hertz’s customer satisfaction.

A number of startups showed off their porposals to retrofit the existing fleets of petroleum-fueled vehicles, giving some hope to Andy Grove’s ambitoious desire to create millions of plug-in conversions before the automakers deliver. But neither car, GM execs made clear, will appear for sale on a showroom floor for more that two years.

The first buyers will be fleet users, which will build central fast-charging facilities. They generate fewer greenhouse gas emissions than cars that burn gasoline, and they have lower fuel costs, even when oil is cheap.
