Kia has unveiled its EV3 compact SUV ahead of a confirmed Australian arrival in 2025. That includes a WLTP range up to 600km, V2L charging, a near-30-inch widescreen display, AI assistant, OTA updates, streaming services, advanced driver aids and the ability to personalise the dash and infotainment through the Kia Connect Store.

Mercedes-Benz’s new EQE is the luxury brand’s all-electric E-Class alternative. As Benz’s fleet transitions to full electrification (2030 is the current target), the stalwart E-Class as we know it is on borrowed time. The high voltage battery gets a separate and class-leading ten-year, 250,000km warranty.

Very cool and ideal to charge phones, your laptop, coffee machine, widescreen TV or even bar fridge. Importantly, I’m back to 100% charge and 376km range. The ton is up in 3.5

None of this quartet is cheap, but all are towards the value end of the EV market. The $6000 Plus pack brings a panoramic sunroof, full power operation of the front seats, heated rear seats and wireless phone charging. Dual digital displays also dominate the dash, while there’s smart key entry, navigation and wireless phone charging.

We’ll limit our top five to under $100,000 – no small sum, but these days families have had to make peace with combustion SUVs, dual-cab utes and people movers costing $60,000 and upwards. Not cheap, but there still feels like decent value here. Budget is, of course, a huge factor. Claimed energy use is 16.7kWh/100km.

This range-topping Kia EV9 GT-Line’s RRP is $121,000, then adds quite ridiculous $18,000 (in Queensland) on-road charges, pushing the bill to $139,000 drive-away. A mid-spec EV9 Earth is around $120,000 in the traffic, while the entry-level Air is a comparatively cheap $107,000. For you NSW lot, it’s $140,200.
