New maps give Europeans close-up picture of air pollution from diffuse sources

They include details of nitrogen oxides (NO x ), sulphur oxides (SO x ), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), ammonia (NH 3 ) and particulate matter (PM 10 ). The new maps raise awareness about local releases of air pollutants, and allow citizens to zoom in on their own neighborhood.
