IEA: Estonia is pioneering technologies for more efficient and cleaner use of oil shale

An article in the latest issue of IEA Energy: The Journal of the International Energy Agency reports that Estonia, which has the most developed oil shale industry in the world, is collaborating in pursuing wider use of oil shale in a cleaner, more sustainable manner. In 2012, Estonia mined 15.86 million tonnes.

IFQC annual ranking of gasoline sulfur standards sees progress around the world; US drops to 46th

Germany, the first to implement the lowest sulfur level of 10 ppm in 2003, remains atop the ranking, followed by Japan and a six-country tie for third place among Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary and Sweden. Overall, the majority of countries are moving toward low-sulfur, cleaner fuels.

Emissions of Air Pollutants down in EU-27

The downward emission trend of three main pollutants which cause ground-level ozone continued in 2007: carbon monoxide (CO) fell by 57%, non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) were down by 47% and nitrogen oxides (NO x ) have dropped 36%. EU-27 emissions of all four pollutants were lower in 2007 than in 2006.
