The final model year for new Peugeot cars in the United States was 1991 , though I find the occasional Mexican-market Pug here and we can still purchase a new Peugeot pepper grinder right now. Back in the 1980s, though, Peugeot managed to hang onto a semblance of American marketplace relevance with the 505. We can't know.

If we're talking about realistic Metro competitors here, the base 1992 Ford Festiva actually managed to undercut the price tag on the cheapest possible Metro two-door hatchback that year: $6,911 versus $6,999. This car sure looks a lot like the 1978-1983 Mitsubishi Galant Lambda hardtop , sold in North America as the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Sapporo. In 1983, this car's MSRP was $7,999, or about $24,812 in 2023 dollars. The MSRPs for those cars were $6,666 and $6,442, respectively ($20,677 and $19,982 after inflation).

When I first became a wise and fair judge for the 24 Hours of Lemons race series , back in 2008, I got a lot of static from Internet Car Experts who noted the large quantity of BMW E30s in every race and proclaimed that any E30 in any condition was worth at least ten times more than the Lemons $500 limit on car cost.
