The 8 kWh battery pack for the new 2011 Buick PHEV crossover vehicle is prepared for testing at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. General Motors will debut its two-mode plug-in hybrid technology—originally intended to appear first in a Saturn VUE, prior to that brand’s sale—in a new Buick crossover vehicle in 2011.

Its two mainstream brands, Buick and Chevrolet, will account for nearly half. Buick will introduce about 12 new and upgraded products. From Chevrolet will come 15 new models and upgrades, which will range from affordable small cars to midsize sedans. A drivable version will be introduced following Auto Shanghai 2011.

Engine technologies such as SIDI (spark ignition direct injection) and turbocharging, as well as new transmissions such as the S6, will be applied in Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet products offered by Shanghai GM. These products offer improved fuel efficiency of between 8% and 13%. all have class-leading fuel economy.

The morning session started out with an hour long press conference, the highlight being the unveiling of the Volt’s 230 mpg preliminary EPA city fuel economy finding ( earlier post ), as well as a tour showing selected elements from the studios of the four GM North American brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac.
