Toyota held its first media briefing and drive for the RAV4 EV ( earlier post ), due to go on sale later this year in California. The converted RAV4 is the result of the partnership between Toyota and Tesla Motors announced in May 2010; Toyota has contracted for 2,600 units. He or she owns a home, which is perhaps solar-powered.

A number of other plug-in hybrids, including models from GM, Chrysler, and Toyota, are scheduled to come out in the next few years. Power from optional solar cells on the roof will be used primarily to cool the car when its parked, but they could also partially recharge the battery.
