Fisker Automotive has signed an agreement with BMW that will cover the supply of engines and other components for future Fisker models. The first ‘Project Nina’ derivative will be a mid-size premium sedan utilizing Fisker’s Ever (electric vehicle with extended range) technology.

Not all plug-in electric cars rely on battery power alone; some also have gasoline engines as backups, for longer range or more power. This year, the list gains three new entries (from BMW, Cadillac, and Mitsubishi) and loses one (the Fisker Karma). Last year, we identified six plug-in hybrid vehicles on sale during 2013.

Fisker Automotive has appointed its first group of 32 US retailers to market and service its luxury plug-in hybrid vehicles, beginning with the $87,900 Karma sedan later this year. Doolan led BMW NA and Volvo Cars NA to record sales in the 1990s and 2000s. The Karma is an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV).

This limited production luxury sedan (1,500 units worldwide) ceased production in November 2021, and ushers-in a new era for the Polestar brand seeing only all-electric cars and SUVs going forward. Henrik Fisker revealed his plans to shake-up the electric SUV category with the all-new, all-electric Ocean. The 2023 Fisker Ocean will offer electric car buyers choices, although most of the specs are estimates at this point. It’s going to make this an exciting time for consumers wanting to go electric.
