ICCT analysis finds real-world vehicle fuel consumption gap in Europe at all-time high of 42%

The average gap between official fuel consumption figures and actual fuel use for new cars in the EU has reached 42%, according to the latest update by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) to its on-going research into vehicle fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions. A survey conducted by Euro-barometer for the European Commission of nearly 26,000 people in all 27 EU member states found that most Europeans are willing to compromise on performance, size, range and price of their car in order to reduce harmful emissions. Statistical results were weighted to correct for known demographic discrepancies.
