Tests on the Rolls-Royce Power Systems test bench at the Liège site in Belgium showed that the use of HVO had no effect on the dynamic behavior of the engine during critical phases under typical load conditions. Power from the public grid drives the synchronous generator, which acts as an electric motor in this operating mode.

A further 20kg is saved by integrating the charger, converter and electronics into one casing. New tech introduced by the R5 includes bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging, allowing owners to feed electricity back into the power grid. A smaller, lighter 40kWh battery pack will also be offered on the cheapest models.
