Zytek won the award for Most Economical & Environmentally Friendly Multi-Purpose electric vehicle with a 7-seat electric Mercedes Vito taxi ( earlier post ) in the first RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge. Its electric Mercedes Vito seven-seat taxi finished the 57-mile run with around 30% of its battery capacity to spare.

Eco City Vehicles PLC (ECV), a developer and supplier of eco-friendly commercial vehicles and the London licensed taxi, launched an all-electric prototype of the London-licensed Mercedes Vito taxi, developed by a consortium of companies including ECV’s manufacturing partner Penso, Mercedes Benz UK and Zytek Automotive.

Elektromotive has taken delivery of its own fully electric smart and, over the next 4 years, will report back on the car’s battery performance, reliability and range. The smart electric drive has been developed in conjunction with Zytek Group, and is exempt from Vehicle Exercise Duty and London Congestion Charge.

At an event held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, London Gordon Murray Design unveiled its latest ultra-compact electric city vehicle, the T.27 27 electric vehicle program, Zytek released more details regarding the electric drivetrain developed for use in this lightweight vehicle. A prototype electric version of the Mercedes Vito Taxi designed and built in six months by a consortium of British technology companies—Zytek, Valence Technology, Penso and Mercedes-Benz UK ( earlier post )—is ready for trials. By lowering the centre of gravity, the low mounting point also improves vehicle stability and ride quality.

Featuring a lithium-ion battery the second generation smart electric drive’s power source will have a longer range, boast a shorter charging time and will give improved performance. All this is made possible by a powerful 30kW electric motor which is built for us by Zytek Automotive. The smart ed has its own charger on board.
