On paper, the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge Twin Ultimate seems like a fine compact EV. Quirky” is an adjective that’s been applied to Volvos in the past, in ways both good and bad, and it certainly applies here, though the quirks are more confounding than fun. Props to Volvo for that. And it looks cool. Save the AM radio!

Power comes from a 93kWh gross (83.7kWh usable) battery which feeds two motors – a 175kW motor powers the front axle and is shared with the regular e-Tron GT, but the rear is larger and more powerful, at 335kW. A 50kW DC charger boosts the battery from five to 80 per cent in around 1.5 Ford Mustang Mach E.
