A recent preliminary road test of the Raser Hummer H3E, an H3 converted with a range-extended electric powertrain ( earlier post ), demonstrated more than 50 miles of all-electric range. Battery range of this innovative vehicle was more than sufficient to exceed our performance target of 40 miles in all-electric mode.

Cummins will display a new powertrain, configurable for either a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) or a range extended electric vehicle (REEV) incorporating a compact engine-generator. liter engine is downsized by about 50% in terms of displacement and can achieve up to 10 mpg, significantly lowering the carbon footprint.

Opel will debut the new Astra at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show; the company will also showcase the Ampera, Opel’s implementation of the Voltec extended range electric vehicle architecture. Continuing Opel’s strategy of downsizing, a new 103 kW (140 hp) 1.4 L/100 km (56 mpg US) will be added to the range in spring 2010.

Available all-wheel drive, its ratings of up to 51 mpg combined, and a comfortable, spacious interior make it one of the most appealing Camry sedans yet.
