Now an eight-year veteran on the Australian scene, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. A new generation of the pioneering mid-sizer has just launched, with 45 per cent larger battery (now 20kWh), a pure electric range of up to 84km (NEDC), all-wheel-drive and seating for up to seven.

Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) will launch a plug-in hybrid version of its new Outlander (introduced at the current Geneva Motor Show) during the course of FY2012 (1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013). Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will be showing a total of 15 vehicles at the upcoming 42 nd Tokyo Motor Show, 30 November through 11 December. At the same time, the driver can also switch to Battery Charge Mode while on the move, controlling use of battery power and using the engine as a generator to charge the batteries.

Mitsubishi will introduce 8 xEVs by FY 2015. Two vehicles have been produced to demonstrate what can be achieved using the companies in-wheel motor technology. The PML eWheel permanent magnet wheel motor is designed to be rugged and flexible. The QED has an all-electric range of 200-250 miles ( 333-417 km) and has a total range of about 932 miles (1,500 km).
