By John Coulter, CURRENT EV CMO In its new Prime, Toyota offers a RAV4 green version that employs a hybrid drivetrain relying on a gas engine and electric motors that draw power from a plug and regenerative braking. Due to “unforeseen battery supply constraints,” fewer than expected RAV4 Primes have gotten to the USA.

The introduction of electric vehicles on a large scale in the UK can only have a beneficial effect on CO 2 emissions if low-carbon electricity, universal broadband provision and smart grids are in place to support the transition, according to a new report published by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering.

The study, in press in the Journal of Power Sources , examines the efficiency and costs of current and future EVs, as well as their impact on electricity demand and infrastructure for generation and distribution, and thereby on GHG emissions. This is before the $7,500 federal tax credit. Those who make the decisions to forgo battery EVs in favor of plug- in hybrids only ignore a sizable market. Those who make the decisions to forgo battery EVs in favor of plug- in hybrids only ignore a sizable market. The drivability was similar to my RAV, but quicker.
