General Motors and LG Group will jointly design and engineer future electric vehicles, expanding a relationship built on LG’s work as the battery cell supplier for the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera extended-range EVs. For LG, the arrangement represents a widening of its portfolio as an automotive solution provider.

entered into a Joint Development Agreement with Balqon Corporation to build its zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell /electric hybrid terminal tractor, the Zero-TT. Balqon Corporation, an emerging developer and manufacturer of zero emissions heavy-duty electric vehicles for Class 7 and Class 8 applications ( earlier post ), introduced a lithium-ion battery powered heavy-duty electric truck designed for use in on-highway short-haul applications at the Governors’ Global Climate Summit in Los Angeles, California.

A few electric cars added to the mix will really boost that average, making things easier on the gasoline-powered side of the ledger.

General Motors Chevy Volt series PHEV, which it calls "extended range electric vehicle" (EREV), part of "E-Flex" multi-fuel platform. The advanced technology vehicle would have an extended driving range on battery power alone and would also have a diesel or gasoline engine that could power the car when the battery was low.
