MG 1 starts the gasoline engine and charges the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery, while MG2 drives the front wheels and regenerates the battery during braking and coasting, and MGR drives the rear wheels and also regenerates the battery. The EPA rates fuel economy at 31 mpg city/28 highway/30 combined.

PHEVs with "Good Enough to Get Started" batteries. The nonprofit CalCars does conversions to demonstrate new designs and provide a platform for different batteries; we dont sell conversions. We will have similar solutions available for better (but more expensive) nickel-metal hydride or lithium-ion batteries.)

Add batteries and grid-charging, and you get PRIUS+, a "plug-in" hybrid (PHEV). On the highway, it runs just like any other Prius, with the gasoline engine doing most of the work -- and the extra batteries kicking in to improve performance at ALL speeds. That means no gas when you do your errands on local streets at 35mph.

That’s certainly the case here in Torrance, California where I live and work. We’ve now got some Mo going with: California solar loan financing that will eliminate the big up front cost of solar. Most have no idea. The good news is that positive things ARE happening and our efforts are starting to make a difference.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries.
