For one more year at least, as Nissan has begun sales of the 2025 model year LEAF. Still, the LEAF’s starting price of $28,000 makes it one of the most affordable models available today… as long as you find somewhere that has CHAdeMO charging. Long live the LEAF! However, that is not the case… at least not yet.

Adding more Tesla stations or other private networks does little to address this concern, as this only helps if you buy one type of vehicle. A handful of bidirectional-capable EVs are available today, and automakers are quickly implementing the technology. We’ve been working with Nissan for many years now, and the only rules that we have with Nissan are that we cannot do V2G when the charge level is above 95% or below 30%.

Most charge points available today take much longer to re-energize batteries than it does to fill a gas-powered cars tank. Perhaps more importantly, quickly "pouring" electricity into many of the batteries available today may stress the very expensive component and shorten their useful lifetime.
