ACEA: data show EU market for electric cars highly fragmented; need for inclusive measures

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has published new data demonstrating the correlation between the market uptake of electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECVs) and both GDP and customer incentives. Five EU member states don’t offer any incentives at all: Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Malta and Poland.

New laser system for fuel ignition may lead to reduced auto emissions, greater fuel efficiency

Laser ignition promises less pollution and greater fuel efficiency, but making small, powerful lasers has proven difficult. They bonded the two sections together to form a powerful laser only 9 millimeters in diameter and 11 millimeters long. A commercial automotive engine will require 60 Hz (or pulse trains per second), Taira says.
