Audi has opened its e-gas plant in Werlte, making it the first automobile manufacturer to develop a chain of sustainable energy carriers. In parallel with the e-gas plant in Werlte, Audi also operates a research facility in Hobbs, New Mexico, USA, for the production of e-ethanol and e-diesel in collaboration with Joule.

In June 2013, Audi commissioned a power-to-gas facility in the north German town of Werlte, thus becoming the first automobile manufacturer to develop a chain of sustainable energy sources. When complete, the new paint shop will be the most energy-efficient paint line in Honda’s US automobile production network. Auto body painting can account for upward of 60% of an automobile plant’s total energy use. Honda is using a new 3-coat/2-bake (3C2B), water-based painting process at its Honda de Mexico, S.A.
