The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Hydrogen Europe and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) are jointly calling on European policy makers to ramp up investments in EU-wide hydrogen refueling infrastructure for fuel cell electric vehicles. IRU is the world road transport organization.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) outlined the industry’s proposal for a pathway to future CO 2 reductions: a 20% CO 2 reduction for passenger cars by 2030, compared to 2021. The European Commission will reveal its proposal on CO 2 targets for cars post-2021 later this year.

At issue are Europe’s 2025 CO2 targets, and a penalty calculated based on fleet average CO2 emissions per automaker. If an automaker fails to meet this legal target, which was established in 2017 , it may have to pay a fine of €95 per gram of CO2 per car. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse has also called for a review of the targets.
