This application of BMW eDrive technologies features the first PHEV system with a front/transverse-mounted. Once the speed exceeds approximately 80 km/h (50 mph) or under strong acceleration, the engine cuts in automatically. Top speed is limited to around 130 km/h (81 mph), while the all-electric range is some 38 kilometres.
