The Atto 3 is charmingly if idiosyncratically styled, has a decent equipment list, a range between recharges as much as 400km in the real world, acceptable performance from its 150kW e-motor and a comfy if not especially dynamic ride/handling balance. The Renault is relatively light for an EV its size, too. But is it any good?

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.

The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. While Id been harsh on the need for outside recharge stations in the past, actually an intermediate charge may extend battery life. Re performance- with proper engineering, a small light car can protect a driver well.
