Nor was 3M the first company to popularize magnetic media— that was Ampex , which commercialized the tape recorder in the late 1940s. I bought them from a junk store, and maybe paid $2 for them. At first, the innovation didn’t spread outside of Germany because of World War II. based on Pfluemer’s magnetic-tape invention.
