DNV GL paper suggests near-term success for LNG in shipping; alternative fuel mix to diversify over time

While renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, may have some potential to mitigate carbon emissions, this is not seen as a viable large-scale alternative for commercial shipping. DNV GL is studying a number of alternative fuels or energy carriers that are already used or could be potentially used in shipping in the future.
