Paradox 1 - Soot: There's an apparent emissions paradox with plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Driving longer distances on battery power means more cold starts as the internal combustion engine (ICE) stops and starts up again after the batteries deplete. A supplemental electric heater comes right to mind. Cold starts mean more pollution.

Ford not only brought back its compact pickup, which some thought was a gamble, but the Maverick comes standard with a hybrid engine. EcoBoost engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) is an option with this engine, but not so with the base hybrid engine. You can take it with you.
