California Energy Commission awards nearly $5M to encourage natural gas-powered buses and trucks

The awards, funded from the Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, help to pay the difference between a conventional gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicle and one powered by a cleaner alternative fuel. The 10 trucks will be in the 26,001 pounds and greater gross vehicle weight range.

California Energy Commission awards more than $2.5M for clean transportation projects

The station will provide fueling for the public, the city’s transit system, and public works vehicles. In addition, buy-down incentives totaling $1,094,000 were awarded for alternative-fuel vehicles. Of that, $66,000 is reserved for the buy-down of 11 propane vehicles of 8,501 to 14,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.

Users of New Leaf fuel include the US Navy, and the cities of San Diego, Oceanside and Chula Vista. The Energy Commission is also awarding $1,074,000 in buy-down incentives for 46 alternative-fuel vehicles. The newly approved buy-down incentives go to the following companies: TEC of California Inc. Villa Ford Inc.
