High Marks for Hyundai’s First Hybrid SUV. Hyundai’s first-ever hybrid SUV, the all-new 2022 Tucson Hybrid, delivers great fuel economy and seats five while hauling all their stuff, too. Whatever it is, during our week driving the Tucson Hybrid through Southern California, it drew plenty of attention and comments.

The Niro isn’t plugged in to recharge the battery but does have a very efficient regenerative charging system that converts kinetic energy into electric energy, when applying the brakes or coasting, and stores it in the battery. inch ground clearance results in an outlook on the road a bit higher than a sedan, but not as high as a SUV.

kWh battery is charged, there is no sound upon pressing the start button as the Escape PHEV defaults to electric mode. If it is cold outside or the battery charge is low, then the engine kicks-in, as it does under heavy acceleration (unless you’re in EV Now mode as explained below). EV Charge mode charges the battery while driving.
