BYD delivers 500 battery-electric e6 police cars to Shenzhen Public Security Bureau

After being selected through a public bidding process, BYD has delivered 500 battery-electric, e6 police vehicles to the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau this week. The BYD e6 reaches speeds of over 140 km/h (~87 mph) with a range of 300 km (187 miles), making it suited for the demands of police utility vehicles.

High-Speed Impact, Not Batteries, To Blame In BYD Electric Car Fire

The post-impact electric-car fire which led to the death of three people in Shenzhen, China earlier this year was not caused by the car’s battery pack, crash investigators have concluded. The tragedy happened in May, when a BYD e6 all-electric taxi was hit early one morning by a speeding Nissan GT-R traveling at 112 mph or more.

Investigation concludes fire in BYD e6 collision caused by electric arcs from short circuit igniting interior materials and part of power battery

In the accident, a driver crashed a Nissan GT-R into a BYD e6 electric taxi, and then collided with a separate gasoline taxicab. The e6 hit a tree before bursting into flames; the 3 occupants of the e6 were killed in the crash. The collisions inflicted fatal injuries on the three passengers.
