Study quantifies impact of fuel composition on PM emissions from gasoline direct injection engines

Green Car Congress

A recent open access study published in Nature’s Scientific Reports (Zhang & Cao, 2015) found that only 25 out of 190 cities in China could meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards of China; the population-weighted mean of PM 2.5 emissions in 2014. The mass percentage of EC in the total tailpipe PM increased as load increased.

Perspective: US Needs to Transition to Hydrous Ethanol as the Primary Renewable Transportation Fuel

Green Car Congress

The Model T and Model A Fords were later designed to operate on either alcohol or gasoline or a blend of alcohol and gasoline. During the early 1900s, a distillery was a standard piece of farm equipment. These distilleries made 192-proof alcohol for human consumption, lantern fuel and transportation fuel.

Study of Vapor Pressures of Gasoline-Alcohol Blends Finds That Dual-Alcohol Blends Can Result in RVPs Identical to That of Gasoline

Green Car Congress

RVPs (predicted DVPE) of single- and dual-alcohol blends in gasoline with different relative proportions of ethanol and 1-butanol. Evaporative emissions from gasoline—volatile organic compounds (VOCs)—are precursors to the formation of tropospheric ozone and contribute to ground-level ozone. Credit: ACS, Andersen et al.
