That same year we started deploying the first of thousands of robots in Afghanistan and then Iraq to be used to help troops disable improvised explosive devices. So far the only self-driving systems deployed on production automobiles, no matter what the marketing people may say, are all Level 2.

In a session on total vehicle energy consumption, several people shared similar pie charts showing the flow of energy within an automobile. Fuel becomes very expensive by the time it reaches the front line, ranging from $20/gallon up to $600/gallon when it is delivered by helicopter in Afghanistan. Where does all of the energy go?
