In states (or countries ) with a high proportion of coal-generated electricity, the miles needed to break-even climb more. If just one out of five urban residents in Europe permanently changed from driving to cycling, emissions from automobiles would be cut by 8 percent, the study reports.

It will appear in Europe next year as the Opel Ampera and in Australia as the Holden Volt in 2012. They leased a few (at a loss) to those that could afford it. Denmark did that with Wind Power and now most of their energy comes from wind rather than oil, natural gas, or coal. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
