USC study shows promising potential for giant-kelp-based biofuel with depth-cycling approach

Beginning in 2019, research divers collected kelp from the wild, affixed it to the kelp elevator and then deployed it off the northwest shore of Catalina Island, near Wrigley’s marine field station. (C) Prior to the experiment, it was unclear whether kelp could effectively absorb the nutrients in the deep, cold and dark environment.
