Samsung SDI has decided to use Hungary as its Li-ion battery production base in Europe. The new facility in Hungary will enable Samsung SDI to establish a global triangular production structure along with existing plants in Ulsan, Korea and Xian, China. —Executive Vice President Jeong SehWoong.

Just three and a half years ago, Benchmark’s lithium-ion Battery Gigafactory Assessment (September 2018) reported Europe’s battery cell capacity to be at 120GWh by 2030—enough cells for 2.2 Samsung SDI (Hungary): 20 GWh. SK Innovation (Hungary): 7.5 million EVs. Now this planned annual capacity figure stands at 789.2

Still, 61k is quite a slide from well over 100k in 2015-2018, and represents ~40% market share, not what one would expect considering the track record. I have no idea.
