The ZEV mandate requires that large volume manufacturers produce and offer for sale in California a specified number of ZEVs. The existing ZEV program requirements are primarily expressed in terms of the number of vehicles that must be offered for sale, with adjustments for different types of vehicles.

As part of a Board-directed effort to provide greater transparency to interested stakeholders, the staff of the California Air Resources Board has posted production data from large- and intermediate-volume automakers beginning in model year 2009 and their Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) credit balances in 2010 on its website. Alternatively, may we suggest the sound of the neighborhood ice cream truck? Until then, we can always program the ESS to make what Lotus refers to as "more futuristic sounds for electric vehicles [that] can be created using sampled sounds and generated waveforms." At least one of these vehicles will be produced in 2010 for consumers in North American markets, followed by production for European markets. Thats such a pretty metallic blue; I would love to see these postal vehicles around my neighborhood. Oh, and the whole electric thing is good too. Looks sharp. Follow us on Twitter!

Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse.
