The vehicles run on lithium ion batteries which, using specialist, high-power charging equipment, can be can be fast charged in less than fifteen minutes. Established in 2008, it has already converted eight Lotuses, and is working on five VW Golfs. And you can use the sockets you have at home to charge, without a problem.

BMW M cars – they’re coming with hybrid drivetrains. And if we’re guessing, we reckon it could be called the Ranger Lightning (see above). Kia e-Niro – Kia is expected to confirm it will begin going electric in Australia in 2021 and it’s the e-Niro set to lead the (err) charge. Soon, apparently.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Blue Concept PHEV Van with diesel or hydrogen fuel cells and rooftop photovoltaic. Batteries not ready. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs. Expects production around 2014.
