Revenues, which have grown by about 45% annually during the past five years, reached $4 billion in 2008. He was paid about $265,000 in 2008, and he lives in a BYD-owned apartment complex with other engineers.

That track record—and that potential—is what persuaded Warren Buffett’s company, Berkshire Hathaway, to buy 10% of BYD last fall for $230 million.
