This brief study analyses, for each individual state, the changes from 2008 to 2018 in the use of coal (one of the two most polluting energy sources) to generate electricity. The results indicate that the percentage of electricity generated from coal decreased from 2008 to 2018 in 49 states.

Globally, commercial ships emit almost half as much particulate matter pollutants into the air as the total amount released by the world’s cars, according to a new study led by NOAA and the University of Colorado at Boulder. As a result, some ships use “cleaner,” low-sulfur fuels, while others continue to use the high-sulfur counterparts.
