Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors, GM China’s joint venture with SAIC and Shanghai GM in Shenyang, broke ground for its new manufacturing facility. Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors was established in 2004. The joint venture manufactures the Buick GL8 family and the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan.

General Motors discussed its future plans in China during a press conference in conjunction with the start of Auto Shanghai 2013. GM currently offers five SUVs in China: the Buick Encore and Enclave, Cadillac SRX and Escalade, and Chevrolet Captiva. It will also create approximately 6,000 new manufacturing jobs.

According to S&P Global Mobility, Buick was the brand that had the highest percentage of female customers with a 55-percent share at the start of 2023. The Baker Motor Vehicle Company tried something similar years earlier and pivoted hard toward marketing to women (particularly upper-crust ladies) in its last gasps.

The new, downsized General Motors Company emerged from bankruptcy Friday morning. Created from the old GM’s strongest operations in an asset sale approved by the Federal bankruptcy court on 5 July ( earlier post ), the new GM is built on four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
