Despite two additional gears and a maximum transferable torque of up to 1000 N·m (738 lb-ft), the new automatic transmission requires as little installation space as its 7-speed predecessor and is also lighter in weight. In the first-generation 7G-TRONIC dating from 2003, the efficiency of this component was only 85%.
