EcoMotors International, a Khosla-funded startup working to commercialize a diesel opoc (opposed-piston, opposed-cylinder) engine ( earlier post ), has named auto industry veteran Donald Runkle as its new CEO. EcoMotors was founded in 2008 by Prof. Don Runkle.

Part of the blame he believes lies with the Bush administration’s mandate for Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to take cars from 27.5mpg to 35mpg by 2020. He points out that California tried fuel cell buses in 2005 and they cost $3million each compared to $328,000 each for diesel buses.
