The donor is a 1969 VW Beetle we've owned since 2001, but it's been in storage since 2003. Although there are a great number of EV kits out there, I've decided to piece this car's conversion together from different sources. On July 1st, 2012, I started my latest (and first EV) project. The easiest conversions are for 2004-2008 Prius (not 2001-2003 Prius) and the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Plug-In Conversions Corp www.pluginconversions.com of Poway, near San Diego, CA converts the Toyota Prius using NiMH batteries and the EAA-PHEV open source control system, and will provide kits to qualified DIY installers.
