Volvo has some of the most aggressive goals when it comes to brand-wide electrification, and the new C40 Recharge is a big step in its electric charge towards zero emissions. Its official name is the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric, and it’s available as either a single motor or dual motor (the latter is called the Twin).

That opposition includes the Lexus UX 300e, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo XC40 and C40 and two of three models in the all-conquering Tesla Model Y line-up. These items were standard when the iX1 was first announced in Australia last November, but that changed in March at the same time as the price was bumped up $2000.

From about $69,000 drive-away – $2000 more than our e-2008 as tested – the RWD version has 455km range, 194kW/340Nm, 170kW maximum charging, and mega cabin space for families. A BYD Atto 3 or MG4 are much cheaper for similar kit and similar EV drive experience. Most competition is stronger on paper. Sometimes by lots.
