Cadillac is the worst-rated domestic manufacturer and ranks near the very bottom at 28. The Model X SUV remained “Much-Worse-Than-Average” for reliability, with ongoing problems including the falcon-wing doors and center display screen. Cadillac is again the worst-performing of the GM brands, dropping one spot to 28.

As the luxury SUV was the future and the PLC was the past, Lincoln announced the Mark VIII was canceled after the 1998 model year.& Contrary to what the press said, the LS was of course rear-drive and did not arrive until model year 2000. But unlike in 1979, the Lincoln brand was no longer king of the hill with Cadillac.

GM says it is already looking ahead to the next generation of Volt-based vehicles — it unveiled the Cadillac Converj concept in January — and says costs will come down as the technology spreads to more models. It will appear in Europe next year as the Opel Ampera and in Australia as the Holden Volt in 2012.
