carbon fuel vehicles will be needed to continue to decarbonize LDVs and reduce oil use out to 2050 and beyond. According to the GFEI paper, improvements to conventional vehicles, including but not limited to hybridization, could achieve a 50% reduction in fuel use per kilometer for new cars by 2030, in line with GFEI targets.
